Wisdom in the News

New Online Resources!

Center for Practical Wisdom updated website

We are pleased to announce the new Center for Practical Wisdom website! We’ve updated based on your feedback. See our new layout here!

The mission of the Center is to deepen our scientific understanding of wisdom and its role in the decisions and choices that affect everyday life.

Click on the About Tab to read about current research projects and catch up on past project outcomes including the Wisdom Research Project (2012-2015) and the Defining Wisdom Project (2007-2011) to better understand the science and research of wisdom at the Center.

Search our database for books and journal articles on wisdom research and wisdom-related topics in our Publications Tab to round out your theoretical, pedagogical,  and scholastic understanding of wisdom in general.

Find tools and measures on wisdom and components of wisdom such as creativity, compassion, or dealing with uncertainty on our Resources Tab. Here you can also find a suggested readings list- a compilation of references concerning wisdom from various disciplines. This literature review provides a solid foundation for exploring important conceptions of wisdom.

Keep up with wisdom related items in everyday life from news around the world, Center related activities, and highlighted discussions in the News Tab on the website.

We connect scientists, scholars, educators, and students at the University of Chicago with researchers and scholars internationally who are interested in studying and understanding wisdom. See our networking pages on LinkedIn, Twitter,  and Facebook to connect with others interested in wisdom based research. Follow our media pages on YouTube and SoundCloud to watch and listen to wisdom research presentations, interviews, and highlights from past forum!
